Bill Brunson, MDiv, DMin

Pastoral Counselor

Bill is a licensed minister and pastoral counselor with more than 35 years of experience listening to people, caring for them, and walking with them through the joys, questions, and difficult seasons of life. He earned his Master of Divinity from Candler School of Theology at Emory University and his Doctor of Ministry from Wesley Theological Seminary.

Bill offers biblical and pastoral counseling for adults and couples who want their Christian faith to be an important part of the conversation. He walks alongside people through caregiving, grief, spiritual struggles, relationship concerns, marital challenges, preparation for marriage, major life transitions, and questions of purpose and direction. He has a special interest in supporting clergy and others serving in ministry roles.

Bill’s approach is grounded in his deep knowledge of and genuine love for Scripture. He offers a thoughtful and compassionate space where people can speak honestly about what they are carrying and consider their circumstances in light of their faith. He seeks to listen carefully, understand each person’s experience, and provide biblical guidance, encouragement, and practical support as they discern the way forward.

During his years in ministry, Bill has served churches of many different sizes, most recently as Senior Pastor of Vestavia Hills Methodist Church. He also previously provided leadership and support to pastors and congregations throughout western Alabama as a Methodist district superintendent. These experiences have given him an understanding of the personal, relational, and spiritual challenges faced by individuals, families, caregivers, pastors, and ministry leaders.

Bill is also a Maxwell Certified Coach, a certified DISC Consultant, and a Certified Positive Leader. He is an author and keynote speaker on faith, leadership, and purposeful Christian living. His books address caregiving, discipleship, leadership, and finding purpose during seasons of waiting and include Help and Hope: Devotions for a Caregiver by a Caregiver.

Bill is honored to be married to Michelle. They have three children and four granddaughters, who know him as Boompah. He enjoys traveling, Alabama football, all things Disney, Topgolf, and collecting what he readily admits are probably useless facts.

Bill practices biblical and pastoral counseling as a licensed minister under the clergy exception provided in Alabama Code § 34-8A-3. He is not a licensed mental health professional and does not provide clinical mental health counseling, diagnosis, or psychotherapy.
