About Christian Mental Health Counseling
At Still Waters Counseling and Education Center, we believe every person is created in the image of God and possesses inherent worth, dignity, and value. We also recognize that life in a fallen world brings suffering, brokenness, relational difficulties, and struggles that can affect emotional, physical, relational, and spiritual well-being.
Caring for the Whole Person
Christian mental health counseling recognizes that people are both physical and spiritual beings. Emotional and mental health concerns may involve biological, psychological, relational, social, environmental, and spiritual factors. Effective care considers the whole person and the many influences shaping a person’s life.
For many Christians, faith is not simply one part of life. It is
the foundation through which they understand themselves, their relationships, their purpose, their suffering, and their hope. Christian mental health counseling provides an opportunity to address life’s challenges within that framework while receiving professional mental health care.
Biblical Truth and Clinical Wisdom
We believe the Bible is God’s inspired Word and the ultimate authority for faith and life. Scripture reveals who God is, who we are, why suffering exists, and where true hope is found. It speaks to concerns such as anxiety, fear, grief, forgiveness, relationships, identity, purpose, suffering, and restoration.
We also believe God has given wisdom and knowledge through science that help us better understand human behavior, relationships, and emotional health. Our licensed therapists use evidence-based therapeutic approaches while evaluating their work through the lens of a biblical worldview.
We do not view Christian faith and sound clinical practice as opposing forces. We believe all truth is God’s truth and that counseling is most effective when it considers the whole person: mind, body, emotions, relationships, and spirit.
What Faith Integration May Include
Faith integration is guided by each client’s needs, goals, and preferences. It may include:

Exploring biblical principles related to the client’s concerns

Discussing spiritual questions or struggles

Identifying spiritual resources that support healing and growth

Considering how faith influences relationships, decisions, identity, and purpose

Incorporating Scripture or prayer when requested by the client
Our goal is not limited to reducing symptoms. We want to help people move toward greater health, healing, wisdom, and wholeness as they pursue the life God has called them to live.
How Is Christian Mental Health Counseling Different From Pastoral Counseling?
Christian mental health counseling is clinical care provided by a licensed mental health therapist. It may include assessment, diagnosis, treatment of mental health disorders, and evidence-based therapeutic approaches, with Christian faith integrated according to the client’s preferences.
Pastoral counseling is a faith-based ministry service provided by a licensed minister. It offers biblical guidance, spiritual support, prayer, and thoughtful conversation but does not include psychotherapy or the diagnosis and treatment of mental health disorders.
Both may address faith and spiritual concerns, but they differ in their purpose, scope, and the training of the provider. Our team can help you determine which type of counseling best fits your needs.
