Emma Burke-Handley, Intern
Hi, I’m Emma Burke-Handley. I’m currently pursuing my Master of Social Work at the University of North Alabama, where I’m gaining both academic and hands-on training in clinical social work. I’m completing my internship at Still Waters Counseling and Education Center under the supervision of Kaylee Newton, LICSW.
During this phase of my internship, I’m focusing on observation and support roles—learning from experienced clinicians, helping facilitate groups in the community, and contributing to the planning and development of grant-funded outreach programs. These experiences are giving me a strong foundation in trauma-informed care, nonprofit work, and holistic support systems.
Before starting graduate school, I earned my Bachelor of Arts in Social Work from the University of Montevallo, where I also studied Spanish and served as a peer tutor. I’ve worked in schools, community-based programs, and with individuals and families navigating developmental disabilities.
I feel honored to be part of the Still Waters team and look forward to the growth and learning ahead as I prepare to serve clients with empathy, excellence, and care.
